<br />
<br />
Thousands of school and university leavers head off onto the open waters for a year or two working on cruise ships around the world. There is something so magical about the idea of working aboard a large luxury liner, visiting different countries and ports and earning lots of money.<br />
<br />
There are some serious factors you need to take into consideration before you consider becoming a crewmember aboard one of these vessels. Each vessel have different requirements and staffing needs, many have strict guidelines they follow to ensure that you are the right person for the job. Remember there may be hundreds of other applicants all lobbying for the same job you are applying for.<br />
<br />
Firstly, it's a good idea to see what jobs are available aboard these ships. In most cases these cruise ships look for a wide selection of staff members from retail clerks to youth coordinators and entertainers to chefs and engineers. In some cases you may choose to go with a smaller vessel with a smaller team, where you feel part of the team rather than one of the over one hundred staff members aboard a larger ship at any time.<br />
Next, you need to consider the crewmember wages on offer. Crewmember wages are usually based according to the position you are applying for, the company and your experience within that sector of the industry. A chef with two years' experience will earn less than a chef with ten years of experience, for example.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Your crewmember wages will usually include room and board, you don't have to pay additional for this. Ensure this is the case, in some instances the cruise company may offer a slightly lower wage to cover these expenses. The advantage is that everything is included, so you can enjoy meals and have a bed to sleep on.<br />
Experience will play a big role on whether you are accepted for the position and the crewmember wages you can expect to receive. Most ships require you have a minimum of eighteen months experience in the chosen position before applying.<br />
<br />
Be prepared to feel as though you are living in a university dorm when you live aboard the vessel. Often you will share a small cabin with one or more other crewmembers, some of which will have a television to keep you entertained. Some will have bunks and then there will be a separate television area for the staff.<br />
Further, you will find that there is a staffing dining area, where everyone will eat out of sight of the guests aboard the ship. Often you will have full access to all the onboard facilities during your time off.<br />
You may have decided to become a crewmember to explore different countries and ports, but you need to be aware that the time you are allowed off the ship will depend on the position you hold and your shifts. Each person will have different port leave times, where you may only get half a day or one day, another member may get three. Remember if you are part of the housekeeping team, you won't get as much shore leave as a retail clerk, where their shop will close while the ship is at port.<br />
Finally, be prepared to go through strict safety training before you step onto the ship. Staff members all have their own roles to play in terms of safety whether you're applying to be a chef in the galley or a lifeguard at one of the swimming pools.<br />

<br />
While EMT training can get you employment in a wide array of employment sectors, cruise ship lines are not one of them. That isn't to suggest if you take a cruise you might be left without medical aid or emergency medical services. Cruise lines usually employ nurses and physicians. There is little need to employ an EMT or EMT paramedic as most of the ships are fully outfitted to deal with the majority of medical emergency or situation. Remember, EMT training and paramedic training supply a profession usually reserved for "first responders", offering essential emergency care services when medical facilities aren't often accessible.<br />
<br />
Each cruise is very different too, not only in how the cruise line is run, but because numerous ships are flagged out of other countries. Many countries have no idea the quantity of EMT training and EMT paramedic training that go in to becoming certified as an EMT or paramedic. Many countries also have a totally different definition and knowledge of the medical training and medical ability of those trained for emergency services. I personally had an uncle who had a diabetic incident while on board a cruise. His understanding of emergency <br />
<a name='more'></a>medical care and that of the doctor on board were every different. There was no "first responder" EMT or paramedic available. However, once his condition was understood by a staff member of the cruise, he was immediately put into the ship's medical facility and given adequate care. The only real difference was there was no EMT trained personnel who responded instantly to see him safely to the medical facility where he'd be cared for. That was left to his wife, my aunt, and the staff.<br />
<br />
This is not to say that a person with EMT training does not have any chance to operate on a cruise line, should that be your desire. Many cruise lines hire contract work, employing qualified EMTs and EMT paramedics. Their role is to come aboard and instruct techniques such as ACLS (advanced cardiac life support), PALS (pediatric advanced life support), and BLS (basic life support) to the medical staff, and re-train or re-certify a number of the staff and crew in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the utilization of an AED (automated external defibrillator).<br />
<br />
Nonetheless, most cruise lines want and employ nurses or doctors. There are a large amount of organizations hiring those with EMT training and EMT paramedic training, and you should consider looking elsewhere. If you wish to go on a cruise and were seeking to work your way on board, bypass that idea, pay the full price, and go enjoy the cruise.<br />
<br />
One last note: Occasionally cruise lines will make special offers, including discount rates on specific cruises, to a unique selection of prospective customers. Often these offers are directed to customers who are active, retired, or volunteer EMTs or EMT paramedics. All you need to do is present a copy of your EMT training certification or EMT ID badge and a driver's license when booking and you will be eligible for exclusive discounted rates.<br />
<br />

Is it possible to get a job on a cruise ship with no experience, and if so - how hard is it?<br />
<br />
I guess the important thing to start off with is that yes, you can get a job on a cruise ship without having any specific experience - but it does limit the jobs that you will be able to apply for. Let me highlight a couple of the jobs available on a cruise ship that usually require no experience.<br />
<br />
<b>1. House Keeping </b><br />
In this position you are responsible for the cleaning duties of the house keeping department. This position allows for promotion into other fields.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<b>2. Dish Washer </b><br />
This position means that you are literally a human dishwasher. It is your job to clean and store all guest cutlery and crockery, as well as all pots and pans.<br />
<br />
<b>3. General Staff </b><br />
General staff is basically a bit of everything. It is your job to take over from other staff when they are feeling sick - so a large degree of flexibility is important in this position.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Shop Assistant</b><br />
If you would prefer to work in one of the ships on board stores then maybe a shop assistant position would be well suite for you.<br />
<br />
These are just a selection of the available jobs for people with experience looking for work on a cruise ship, but is definitely not an exhaustive list.<br />

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For many, landing a cruise ship job sounds too far fetched to be true. How could a job possibly be that good? We are all used to hearing the wise old adage, that if something sounds to good to be true, then it probably is. But sometimes, not often, but sometimes, things really are as good as they sound. Having a job that allows you to travel the world and pays you for doing so isn't a pipe dream at all. For the 150,000 and growing people working the cruise lines, this isn't a fantasy, it is a reality.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Nor do you need special skills to land a cruise ship job either. On every ship, there are store clerks, janitors, bus boys, and many more entry level positions. Of course, there are countless skilled positions too, but the point is that many people just like you are working on the cruise ships, and you can too, with a little determination and persistence.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Cruise ship workers come from all backgrounds and nationalities; you will find that on many ships, you could encounter literally dozens of nationalities. Age, race, sex, and religion are no obstacle at all; it is one of the most color blind industries on the planet, and people from any demographic can rise to the top.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Imagine the life experiences these people are enjoying right now. They don't pay for rent or food, are able to save everything they make, and are no longer subject to the mind-bending drudgery of the nine to five rat race. They don't even have to clean (unless that is their job of course!).</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><a name='more'></a><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The fact is, working on the cruise ships is one of the best way to travel. You can take off for months at a time, without the planning, expense and risk of attempting to do it all yourself. There is no good reason why you shouldn't be the one enjoying this incredible life style.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The opportunity is available to everyone, and the variety of people you will find on the ships who saw opportunity and grabbed it is one of the benefits of working in the cruise ship business. It is so enriching, to meet people from around the world, to hear their perspectives and experiences, and to learn about their culture, and is one of the most exciting aspects of working in this industry.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The experiences you will gain from working and traveling all over the world will last you a lifetime, and will be something you can tell your children about. These will be stories they enjoy hearing over and over again, because the mystique of seeing strange and distant lands is something that never become boring.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So if you are seeking adventure, and want more out of life than what you have now, then you truly owe it to yourself to learn more about landing your first job on the cruise ships. Visiting exotic and distant lands is a call that is heard by millions, yet so few ever answer that call. Will you?</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">One of the biggest insider secrets used by people wanting to get hired by the cruise ships isn't really a secret at all; it's simply getting their resume in front of as many eyeballs as possible. The secret is in how they do this - by using an inexpensive service that forwards their resume to the proper hiring authorities with virtually every cruise line company in the world. Does such a service exist? Yes, they do.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><a name='more'></a><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Using such a service has a number of tremendous advantages. You won't be wasting dozens of hours tracking down contact information, email addresses, web pages, mailing addresses, and so on. If you were to attempt to get your resume off to almost every cruise company in the world, how long do you think that would take? Try weeks on for size!</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Instead, by the time it would take to send off all of these resumes manually, people who use services such as these are generally working on a cruise ship instead. You see, ships are almost always hiring, even in a recession, so if you get your resume in front of enough eyeballs, your chances of landing a cruise ship job are better than good.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The fact is, with an 86 percent positive response from the cruise lines to people using services such as these, using an industry-specific resume forwarding service is one of the best investments possible. If you choose to do this, you'll find that the service updates the addresses of the the cruise lines constantly, submits to companies with a reputation for hiring those new to working on cruise ships, and submits to companies that hire people with special skills or trade skills.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Additionally, your resume isn't sent as spam. It will appear in the in-box of the recruiter or hiring manager exactly as if you had sent it yourself, and is guaranteed to be seen by the personnel department or hiring manager. The service is 100% guaranteed, and the process is so simple: Simply fill out an online form that will then build a resume built just for the cruise lines, and then click a button and wait for the inevitable flood of responses and interview requests.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So if you are the type of person who loves to travel for long stretches (or would like to be), if you get along with a variety of people, are motivated and love challenges, and enjoy working with others and making them happy; if all of these things apply to you but you are simply unsure of where to start, then people with decades of travel experience can help. Working and traveling at the same time is really the ultimate work experience as well as the ultimate travel experience, and is something that will stay with you for life.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There are some differences to the hiring process for working at sea that it is good to know or learn, and you will find that cruise ship employment services can greatly assist you in making that transition. Once you have landed your first cruise ship job, you'll have a foot in the door that will allow you full entry into the exciting world of cruise ship employment, and the chance to fulfill your dreams and find the experiences of a lifetime.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Careers on the cruise lines are some of the funnest, most exciting jobs possible. You'll see the world, and earn a great living at the same time. </div><br />

<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Would you like to get a job on a cruise ship? I know you do!</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">If you have not been on a cruise, the enjoyable activities, the wonderful people, the entertainment, the food, the atmosphere... Ah, it is a floating paradise.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">But wait, how about working there? That way you get to enjoy what cruise vacations has to offer and get paid as well! Working in cruise ships gives you all the things you desire in life - Travel, Fun, Entertainment, Romance, and a Steady Paycheck!</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div><a name='more'></a> <div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There are plenty of jobs to be filled in cruise companies. After all, cruise ships are like floating cities. Cruise Lines always hire people with experience in entertainment, healthcare, engineering, gaming, beauty and fitness, administration, financial management, and more. To work there, you must always have a positive attitude and always ready to provide a safe, fun and memorable vacation experience.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">You are now determined to work in the Cruise Line industry. The next step is to get hired. The first thing you need to do is research!</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Research Cruise line companies</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Search online about different cruise line companies. Determine which companies have the largest fleets. Royal Caribbean International, Princess and Carnival cruise lines are known as the 'Big Three' in the industry. They have the three largest fleets. Consequently, they have more jobs to offer.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">You got to find out which cruise lines caters to which type of vacationers, what ports they visit and other aspects that may be of use to you. It is also important to know which companies have new ships. New ships mean more job positions to fill.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Get job position listings</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Once you have decided which carrier appeals to you, get a listing of the available positions they offer. You must understand that different cruises have different needs. Not all cruises cater the same market. There are family cruises, and there are cruises strictly for adults.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Take your Pick</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Decide which job positions interest you the most. You must also base it on your personal strengths, education, and work experience to improve your chances of employment.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Update Resume</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Always keep an updated resume. Highlight your skills which you think will be most useful aboard cruise ships. If you have certifications like in CPR, Public Speaking, hospitality service, etc... be sure to emphasize them. They appeal to cruise line companies and it will take you ahead of the competition. If you still don't have these types of training and certifications, it is time to get some.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Apply</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">All established cruise companies have a website. Most have online application systems. Follow the instructions to the letter and apply accordingly.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I fell in love with cruising in January of 2008. My first cruise was on the Carnival Conquest. It was 7 days. We visited Montego Bay, Jamaica, Georgetown, Grand Cayman and Cozumel Mexico. While I loved visiting new places, I was just as intrigued by the ship during that cruise. Walking around and taking in all the sights on the ship, I thought "WOW, I wonder what it's like to have a cruise ship job?", so I decided to investigate.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The Carnival Conquest debuted in 2002. It can carry 2,974 passengers and 1,150 crew members. The ship is a floating city. There are stores for shopping, multiple restaurants, a beauty salon, a health spa, a casino, a disco, multiple entertainment lounges and numerous bars. There are many different jobs openings on a large cruise ship. Let's look at a few areas of the ship.:</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Entertainment</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">This is the most important function of the ship. When you are not sleeping, eating or visiting a port of call, you must be entertained. You are at sea for days. What are you going to do? There are contests, bingo, shows, classes, the disco, the casino and bars. The jobs available in this area are the Cruise Director (Manager of all ship entertainment), Assistant Cruise Directors to run the contests and MC the shows. Dancers, singers, band members and production crew are needed to produce the shows in the main theater. Specialty acts and Guest entertainers are needed for the main stage and the various lounges aboard the ship. Not to mention the DJ at the club and a multitude of bartenders and bar backs.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><i>Salary Range: $3000 to $7000 US, per month</i></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><a name='more'></a><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Ship Computer Systems</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The navigation system, ship controls and communications are all run by computers and someone has to program and maintain them. There are also PC's in the internet lounge and terminals used by the crew that must be serviced and maintained. IT Technicians, system analysts and IT managers are required for all of technical aspects of the ship to run smoothly.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><i>Salary Range: $3000 to $5400 US, per month</i></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Salon Services</b></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">OK, this is probably appreciated by ladies the most. The ship has a full service salon that offers hair styling, pedicures, manicures, facials and massages. Every position held in a salon on land is needed in the ship salon. I had my very first massage on a cruise ship. It was a hot stone massage and it was FABULOUS!</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><i>Salary Range: $2000 to $3400 US, per month</i></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So, what do you think? Is working a cruise ship job for you?</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What are the requirements?</div><ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><li>You must be 21 or older.</li>
<li>You must be willing to work a 3 - 6 month renewable contract.</li>
<li>You must be a hard worker as you may work 6 day a week, for 10 hours a day.</li>
<li>You must be willing to bunk with another crew member.</li>
</ul><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What are the benefits?</div><ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><li>You will have free transportation to and from the ship.</li>
<li>You will get to visit the places that the ship visits on your days off.</li>
<li>You can have family members visit you on the ship during cruises at a discount.</li>
<li>You will not have to pay for rent or food while on the ship and save lots of money.</li>
<li>You will get paid to sail and see the world!</li>
</ul><br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Work on cruise ships is often characterized by traveling the world, visiting lots of beautiful and exotic locations, and having the time of your life. And although these things do make up a part of the job, there is another side to the job that you need to be aware of before making the decision to work aboard a ship.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The bottom line is, working on a cruise ship can be tough and demanding and not not everyone has what it takes. Homesickness is often one of the main problems during the first few weeks. Lack of time for yourself, the lack of privacy and the inability to really make a home base for yourself are also potential problems when working on a cruise ship, because of the amount of time you spend at sea.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There is also the actual living at sea to consider. Even large cruise liners can rock a lot when out on the waves, and this can prove quite hard to get used to for some. If you get seasick, it's probably not the job for you! However, most people get used to it very quickly.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><a name='more'></a><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Work on cruise ships also involves very different living conditions. You will be living in quite a small cabin, most likely sharing it with someone else, so you won't get much space to yourself. You might be lucky and share with someone that you get along with, but it's also a real possibility that you'll end up sharing with someone that you don't like. Being adaptable and relaxed will help a lot, but it can still be very tough.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Of course, there are also lots of benefits to working aboard a ship. No rent, no clothes washing, no commuting, no cooking. This means you won't be spending time doing chores, so you'll be able to spend your free time doing the things you want to do.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">What you really have to do is ask yourself what your motive is for finding work on cruise ships. If you want to go and see lots of exotic places and get to spend lots of time in each port, then there are a few jobs that you should avoid. There are demanding positions such as cleaners, engineers and cabin stewards that involve a lot of work, and they don't get a lot of time ashore to explore the magical island where you've just docked.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">However, find a job in entertainment, admin, the casino, photography, or fitness and beauty, and you will probably be able to spend much more time off the ship exploring the new locations along your route. These jobs will also be tough, but they probably have a greater chance of getting you time off to explore.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Of course, if your aim is to progress in your career in the hospitality industry, then this should be your main concern. It's great to get to see lots of new places, but when you finish your contract you'll have a wealth of experience to take into a new job back on the land.</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">So always consider your motive for applying for work on cruise ships, as well as carefully considering whether you are really cut out for it, and your experience will be a lot more productive.</div><br />

<br />
<div style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Want a job that will make use of your speaking, organizing, and people skills.<br />
<br />
Become a Cruise Director! <br />
<br />
A cruise director or cruise manager is the one responsible for all activities and entertainment on board the Cruise ship. The job is high paying and experiences are very rewarding. You are in the spotlight and if all goes well, the credits are usually given to you. At the end of the cruise, if there is only one person the guests can remember, it will be the Cruise Director!<br />
<br />
The cruise directors' main objective is to give an enjoyable experience to patrons aboard the ship by planning and coordinating social and cultural events. They are constantly in contact with guests giving them valuable information and ensuring their wellness. They are always on the spotlight armed with great public speaking skills.<br />
<br />
Cruise directors are also very knowledgeable about the travel routes and destination locations of the cities where the boat docks. They are also equipped with the skills to handle difficult and even emergency situations. Their interpersonal skills are not limited to guests but also implemented in managing ship personnel as well. <br />
<br />
Considering the responsibilities and skills involved, it is no surprise that Cruise directors are paid well. At first glance, the job can be very overwhelming but if you are passionate about entertaining people and traveling, this is a dream job for you.<br />
<br />
How to become one:<br />
</div><a name='more'></a><br />
The best way to get this job is by starting from the bottom first. Cruise Companies won't just give these responsibilities to someone who doesn't have on board experience. Cruise directors are usually promoted from lower positions. So, the best way is to nail entry-level positions first and slowly work your way to the top.<br />
<br />
However, competition for this position is extremely stiff. You must get ahead of the competition. If you have already secured a staff position, always do excellent work and learn as much as you can. Always strive to get any experience and learn from it! <br />
<br />
Observe and study the current cruise director and the intricacies of his job responsibilities. As much as possible, always offer assistance to the Cruise Director. It is not brown-nosing, it is learning and researching.<br />
<br />
Never miss out on any training that the company may offer. If you have to pay then, pay. Most likely, these trainings are required to qualify you for the position in the future. If you can add further training not offered by the company to your credentials, then do so. Who knows it may become the deciding factor to eventually make you nail the job. Your co-workers may also have the same training as you but when you have something more like for example, a certificate in CPR or short courses in public speaking then you will most likely get the job.<br />
<br />
Once the position becomes available, apply for it. Emphasize your experience and credentials. Be confident. Cruise directors always rise above any occasion. <br />
<br />
If for some reason, you are not hired. Always ask how you can improve your hiring chances.<br />

<div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Cruise jobs can be fun in many ways, you can make money, but it is also not every one's cup of tea.So many have a great desire to work on cruise ships, so many more have already done it over the years, with great success, seeing the world meeting people and having great adventures.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Cruise ships jobs can be very rewarding especially if you like being around people and enjoy the interaction. People (the passengers) come on cruise ships to have fun, get away and enjoy themselves. The hours can be very long and tough on you, depending on the cruise job you are doing. Its like pretty much anything in life it is what you put into it, what you get out. Homesickness can be a problem, but you get over it pretty quickly, you are too busy working, having fun and adventures. You find the days can fly you don't even know what day of the week it is, just when the home port is coming up.<br />

</div></div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Depending on your cruise ships jobs, most of the jobs are tips/gratuities based, unless you are in an admin job or on a set salary. Tips can be pretty good, especially as the passengers are on the cruise ship to have fun and are relaxed and generally feeling generous. So there is a great opportunity for earning good money, no rent to pay, or food to pay on board. It can set you up, for if you wanted to open your own business one day, but you do need to save, some people tend to go crazy and spend in all the wonderful ports.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Yes cruise employment is not always every one's cup of tea.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">1. If you are constantly seasick and feel like crap.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">2. You are not a peoples person and have to constantly deal with people.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">3. You do not like confined spaces, small cabins.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">4. The discipline that goes with working on cruise ships, the boat drills, cabin inspection and regulations.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">If you have always desired to work on cruise ships, imagine one day you look back and think I regret not having tried it. You can even make a career out of cruise jobs, there are loads of opportunities on board for promotion, even changing departments once you are on board.<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">It can be a wonderful life opportunity, the travel and meeting different people from all nationalities (the crew), it is like a huge life lesson in many ways. The seasickness is not such a problem nowadays with the huge cruise ships out there, they all have stabilisers, but some people still do suffer from that (you get those arm bands etc). At the end of the day it is a huge adventure in more ways than one, think of all those great people you will meet and the wonderful memories you will have.<br />

</div><span style="font-size: xx-small;">By <a href="http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Neil_Maxwell_Keys">Neil Maxwell Keys</a></span><br />
<br />
There are many ways that you can increase your chances of getting the perfect cruise ship job. Anything that you can do to make yourself stand out from the rest in such a competitive industry is going to help you get the job. So, before you even start, it is always advisable to think very carefully about how you are going to apply.<br />
<br />
One way to improve your chances of getting hired is to carry out proper research. Now that you have the internet, you can easily research lots of different jobs, as well as the best ways to apply, where you should be applying to, and what skills you're going to need to succeed.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
This will help you to find the position that is right for you. It's no good just sending in a resume for any job that you can. Far more effective is to apply for a particular post that stands out to you. In the eyes of the company you will appear more serious and that will stand you in greater stead of being offered a job.<br />
<br />
Remember, in this industry there is a high staff turnover, which means revenue loss for the companies. The longer they keep hold of you the more economical it becomes for them, so don't tell them that you're just here for six months in the sun as it won't go down too well.<br />
<br />
Another area that needs to be carefully considered when applying for a job on a cruise ship is your resume. You need to make sure that it is all up to date and that it is accurate and presented well. But more than this it has to be relevant. What this means is that if you are applying for one position on one ship, but a different position on another, then alter your resume so that it is relevant to each position. If you just send the same resume for every position then you're not going to be helping yourself out.<br />
<br />
Of course, another thing to consider to help you get a cruise ship job is to go with an agency. Many cruise lines rely on agencies for their staffing needs, so you can be doing yourself a big favor by going through one of these.<br />
<br />
Agencies are so useful because they know the ins and outs of the industry. They have contacts who they are on first-name terms with, and they know what the companies are looking for. And on top of that, when they manage to find you a job onboard, they will be earning money as well from commission, making it in their best interests to find you work.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="zemanta-img zemanta-action-dragged" style="display: block; float: left; margin: 1em; width: 250px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/21203533@N00/236458175"><img alt="DSC01166, The Rotterdam and Celebrity Cruise S..." height="180" src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/83/236458175_92c6db6f83_m.jpg" style="border: medium none; display: block;" width="240" /></a><span class="zemanta-img-attribution"></span><br />
</div>As another alternative, you can also apply through a concessionaire. A concessionaire is a company that will be in charge of a particular service aboard the ship, such as the gift shops. Because they hire their own staff, applying to them will increase your chances of finding a job on board a cruise ship.<br />
If you apply to all three of these then you will be increasing the odds of finding that cruise ship job you've been looking for. So put all of these things into practice, and remember to follow the ideas suggested in the article when you are applying for a job, and you will increase your chances of success.<br />

<br />
Jobs on <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruise_ship" rel="wikipedia" title="Cruise ship">cruise ships</a> are available throughout the year. However, during certain times of the year employers have to be a bit more selective in who they employ. You may not know it but you actually stand more chance of getting a job at certain times of the year than at others.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="zemanta-img zemanta-action-dragged" style="display: block; float: right; margin: 1em; width: 310px;"><a href="http://commons.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MSMajestyOfTheSeasEdit1.JPG"><img alt="MS Majesty of the Seas, one of Royal Caribbean..." height="176" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/95/MSMajestyOfTheSeasEdit1.JPG/300px-MSMajestyOfTheSeasEdit1.JPG" style="border: medium none; display: block;" width="300" /></a><span class="zemanta-img-attribution">Image via <a href="http://commons.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MSMajestyOfTheSeasEdit1.JPG">Wikipedia</a></span><br />
</div>But no matter what time you choose to apply for a job, the truth is that the 'perfect' time does not really exist. Sure, there are some times that are better than others, but the most important thing that you can do is to start your application process right now, because cruise line companies are employing throughout the year.<br />
Sitting around waiting for the best time to apply is a high-risk strategy. What if it never arrives? If you continue to wait then you'll miss opportunities. The most important thing is to just get started, even if you don't think you're quite ready. You never really know until you try! This will allow you to get started and then when the right job turns up you'll be ready for it.<br />
<br />
Everyone makes excuses, but you have to get past these. It's not easy to do, but don't become one of those people who's always saying they're going to do something and then never get around to it.<br />
So in terms of what times of year jobs on cruise ships are easier to get than other times, when should you apply? One answer is just before Christmas in the months from September to November.<br />
There are a few reasons for this. The first is that world cruises usually begin in January, so most cruise lines look to fill their vacancies rightaway. Also, winter is generally the busiest time of year. This means that there is simply more work going. And on top of that, a lot of the more experienced crew want to spend Christmas with their families, leaving more openings available for you.<br />
<br />
This should convince you not to wait until December to get your applications in, but to get up and get sorted as soon as you can!<br />
<br />
But there is another time of year when jobs on cruise ships are easier to find, and that is just before the summer peak season which starts in May. Boats are usually fully booked during this time, but there will still be experienced crew who decide to go home for the summer rather than at Christmas. This means more jobs on cruise ships will be going, and why shouldn't you be the one to get the position?<br />
<br />
Jobs on cruise ships are going throughout the year. Sure, there are two times of the year when you might stand a better chance of getting a job because there are more positions going, and if you can time your application to coincide with these times then that's great.<br />
<br />
However try not to let the time of the year prevent you from applying for the jobs on cruise ships that you want. The truth is that there are jobs going throughout the year, and if you wait too long then you're going to miss out. Begin your search for a job right now, start the ball rolling today, and you are much more likely to get hired.<br />

<br />
These C1 & D1 and B2 visas allow you to enter the USA for a limited time only when your ship calls to a US port, usually 30 days :<br />

<br />
If you have a strong desire to work on cruise ships, then it's a good idea to think carefully about which positions on board you would be ideal for. There are certain types of jobs that do require specific qualifications and skills, namely those in the entertainment, beauty and youth staff departments.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Other jobs, however, require little or no qualifications or even experience, so don't be put off applying for cruise line employment if you're certain this is the career for you. Although many people believe it's impossible to break into the industry without prior experience, this just isn't true.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
There are thousands of crewmembers who landed jobs with any particular skills or experience. There are many jobs that can easily be carried out using non-vocational skills and full training will be provided onboard.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Most people fail to land work on cruise ships not because of their lack of experience but because of their lack of know-how. Make sure you are applying for the position best suited to your abilities and skills and most importantly of all, is learning the knack of selling yourself. Understanding how to do this properly can quickly get you the job you want!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
If you do not have strong experience or any particular qualifications to speak of, then here's some jobs on board that you should think about applying for:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

If you possibly can, you might consider gaining a few simple certificates that will greatly enhance your chances of success. Water safety instruction, CPR, or anything related to this area will give you the edge over other applicants when applying for cruise ship vacancies and ensure your resume looks even more impressive!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Classes are easy to find in most locations and there should be ones near you. Usually all that is required is one or two day's attendance at each course.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
For more information, contact the Red Cross for details of water safety courses or CPR training. Alternatively have a look at these websites: americanheart.org or redcross.org.<br />

Know what you are agreeing to, many luxury liners have a policies which you must agree to such as confidentiality about guests, no fratternising with the guests and completion of the entire voyage at an acceptable level are often required.<br />
<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">3. Don't go paying membership fees to so called "cruise ship agencies" that are only looking to part you and your money.<br />

<br />
When applying for cruise ship employment it's important to spend some time getting your application just right. A little time and effort at this stage will help you on your way to success and clinching that interview. Here are ten top tips to ensure a winning cruise ship application.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1. You should create a list of any previous positions you've held before, paid and voluntary. Write down any certificates you've gained from school, training or higher education. Don't forget to add any training courses you've taken part in and skills you have acquired.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. After you have completed your list, rewrite it with your best strengths listed at the top all the way down to your 'least' strength. Be honest about your strong points and weaknesses.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Now it's time to find out what cruise ship vacancies are presently available. The majority of cruise lines will place advertisements with the leading job websites online, so spend some time looking through these. Use a search engine to locate the top employment sites.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. Consider the available positions and weigh up which vacancies are best suited to your experience, your qualifications, your skills, your personality, and your aspirations. Think carefully about what type of cruise ship employment matches you best.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. After you've chosen which cruise ship vacancies to apply for, start building your resume. Check it carefully to ensure no spelling mistakes and make sure it looks professional i.e. typed correctly with proper spacing and aligned margins, etc. Try to make your resume as imaginative and interesting as possible to stand out from other applications.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. Write confidently! Select powerful words that portray you as a confident person with a strong belief in your own abilities. Never over-estimate your capabilities but at the same time don't undervalue yourself either. Just be honest and choose words that sound right for you.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. If you are applying for more than one cruise ship job, optimize your resume accordingly for each vacancy. Change it a little to target the positions you're writing your application for, ensuring that any relevant abilities and skills you have in this field are highlighted. This point is essential in the cruise ship industry.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
8. Once your resume is polished and sparkling, give it to family and friends to critique. This is a good way to spot any errors you may have overlooked and get an honest opinion on its appearance and content.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
9. Now your resume is out of the way, its time to concentrate on your cover letter. This part is crucial so spend extra time getting it just right. Your cover letter is the key to enticing the recruiter to read your resume; and your resume should entice the recruiter to make contact with you, pleading for an interview!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
10. Once everything is completed, it's now time to send it. Don't spend days or even weeks drafting copies until its perfect. If you can, start right now and get your cruise ship employment application ready as soon as possible. Concentrate on nothing else until it's ready, you want to secure that interview within the next week.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
That's it! Now just sit back and wait until that interview letter pops through the door. While you're waiting, here are three bonus tips to improve your chances even more.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Bonus Tips<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1. Ensure your application is addressed correctly. Have you spelt the receiver's name correctly? Have you got their position right? Always double check because the last thing you want is to make a mistake at this important part!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Whilst you're waiting to hear from the company, brush up on your interview techniques. Consider the questions you may be asked and think how you will answer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Keep a record of all cruise ship jobs you have applied for. Write down which companies you have applied to, which positions you applied for, the date you applied, the name and position held by the recruiter, the name of the agency, and their physical and website address.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
By following this advice you should be well on your way to a successful application for cruise ship employment. Remember, if it doesn't work out this time, keep persevering and polish your application next time until it stands out from the rest. Good luck!<br />

Here's Why<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><b>Author: <a href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/liz-hanson/151787.htm" title="Liz Hanson">Liz Hanson</a></b></span><br />
<br />
What are you doing to locate the best cruise ship job vacancies? Is your strategy working so far? If not, you may want to rethink your course of action. You may be interested to know that the vast majority of cruise line jobs are filled by word of mouth, or they're offered to proactive individuals who have already sent in their resume with cover letters to the cruise lines. In fact upwards of 97% of these jobs aren't even advertised online, or anywhere for that matter. This means, many opportunities may be slipping through your fingers without your knowledge<br />
<br />
If all you've been doing is looking around online to find cruise ship employment, you're severely limiting your reach. These positions are often unique to a specific cruise line, and sometimes individual cruise ships. So they can fall under the radar pretty easily. If you keep in regular contact with a particular cruise line by taking the above approach and sending your resume to them every month or two, you'll more likely get noticed, and the cruise line will notice your persistence.<br />
<br />
Cruise ship job fairs are another great way to find job vacancies. Many of the super liners like Norwegian or Carnival Cruise Lines frequently conduct job fairs. They are held in many locations around the world quite regularly. Actively attending these job fairs can land you a job rather quickly, especially if you connect well with one of the recruiters.<br />
<br />
It's also very advisable to use a recruiting agency. Like most jobs in the travel industry, turnover is quite high due to the fact that many who work in the industry view working on a cruise ship as an "adventure" of sorts. So cruise ships are always on the lookout for employees to fill positions. Not only that, but cruise ship job agencies are often run by ex cruise workers, so they have contacts you certainly wouldn't have. This can be extremely useful if you play your cards right and impress the agency. Just make sure you're aware of all the fees (if any) that you'll need to pay the agency for their services.<br />
